Organic Rhythm Therapeutic Drumming training programme .

The programme aims to develop participants skills so that they can confidently lead drumming session within their own work settings .
No prior musical experience is necessary
Below is a summary of the training programme.
It aims to give participants a basic understanding and to develop confidence in the practice of therapeutic drumming for the elderly, those with mental health problems or vulnerable people in residential or day service
Delivery will be via presentations, video footage and practical exercises.
1. Why Drumming? -An introduction into it's therapeutic benefits and presentation of the evidence. Understanding why and how drumming works with the elderly, the positive benefits to mental health and other benefits to health and wellbeing.
2. Facilitator qualities- leadership, confidence, being adaptable.
3. Group Percussion and Drumming- understanding the instruments, how to adapt them to accommodate individual abilities.
4. Rhythm & Drumming activities:
a) Learning to play the drums, keeping time, listening and co-operation with others, building confidence.
b) Learning a selection of songs/activities suitable for use in care/residential home or day service settings.
5. Facilitation skills - practical exercises, facilitating within own peer group, leading a session, developing skills, feedback.
6. Health and Safety issues - storing, handling, cleaning and looking after the drums & percussion instruments to maintain their life and to prevent injury/cross infection to users.
During each session participants will build their confidence with playing the drums, learning rhythms, songs and have opportunity to practice facilitation skills.Each participant will receive hand outs of the course material, power point slide shows along with some video footage of their practice and a certificate of completion. By the end of the programme each participant should be able to deliver therapeutic drumming sessions within their own work settings.

Cost: £425 per person for the complete programme. Book 4 people from the same company and pay for just 3.

NATIONAL CARE HOME OPEN DAY 2013
Organic Rhythm were proud to support Cary Brook Care Home ( Somerset Care, Castle Cary)
and West Abbey Care Centre (Barchester, Yeovil) on National Care Home Open day.
Thanks to those from our Women's Drum class who came along too.
We also delivered Drumming and Boomwhacker workshops to over 100 seniors from Alliance Homes in Weston Super Mare.
An olympic themed event - we used Boomwhackers as part of their closing ceremony for the day.

Drumming in Care/Residential Homes/Day Services- How does it work?
We bring a van load of drums and percussion instruements of all shapes and sizes to you for a fully interactive and participatory session. Everyone gets a drum or peice of hand percussion, eg, easy to hold maracas, tambourines, or soft ended mallets to hit drums with. Everyone is encouraged to participate at their own level, some people really whollop the drum, others place a hand gently on the drum skin to feel the vibrations from the rest of the group. We sing, play, and invariably smile a lot!
Did you know that drumming is good for you? It can increase the alpha brain waves, those associated with feeling good and euphoria. It's also a wonderful stress release, good for socialisation, connection with others and can leave participants feeling calm and relaxed.
